Gov. Schwarzenegger announces the appointment of two new members to the Cal/OSH Standards Board. One position fills the vacant labor seat. The other means the end of Dr. Jonathan Frisch's tenure on the board.
Henry "Hank" McDermott, 66, was named to replace Frisch as occupational health representative. David Thomas, 52, fills the labor seat vacated in 2009 by Steve Rank.
McDermott, of Moraga, is a consultant and president of H.J. McDermott. An industrial hygienist and Certified Safety Professional, he worked for Chevron Corp. from 1980 to 2002. McDermott also is a member of Cal/OSHA's permissible exposure limit Feasibility Advisory Committee.
Thomas, of Modesto, has been a business representative for the Northern California District Council of Laborers since 2009 and has worked for laborers' unions since 1987. He also is a member of the San Joaquin Building Trades Council.
Standards Board members are not paid a salary, but receive $100 per diem as compensation for time they spend on board matters. Their appointments do not require state Senate confirmation.
