Ken Atha

Atha oversees Cal/OSHA and other state programs in the West, as well as federal operations as far as Guam.

Resume: Ken Nishiyama Atha was appointed as regional administrator for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in San Francisco by the Secretary of Labor on April 27, 2008. Mr. Atha is responsible for administering the OSHA safety and health programs in Arizona, California, Hawaii, Nevada, Guam, American Samoa, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), including overseeing the grants given to state programs. Prior to his current post, Atha served as area director at federal OSHA and as a safety manager at the U.S. Dept. of Defense. He also worked as a flight engineer instructor and evaluator in the U.S. Air Force.  He leads a diverse team of professionals and has direct responsibility for the safety and health enforcement covering federal workers, maritime operations, and private-sector workers in the territories as well as sites with exclusive federal jurisdiction to ensure workplaces are free of recognized hazards and that workers have a voice in the workplace. He has more than 26 years of federal service.

Schools: He received degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Mount Senario College in Wisconsin. He is also a graduate of the Federal Executive Institute.
