SAN FRANCISCO - Reductions in job-related homicides and electrocutions were largely responsible for the drop in the number of fatal work injuries in the United States in 1996. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 6,112 deaths last year, compared to 6,275 (adjusted) in 1995. Transportation incidents accounted for 42 percent of the total, or 2,556.Job-related electrocutions dropped 20 percent, to 279 and homicides fell 12 percent, to 912, in 1996.Deaths caused by contact with objects or equipment
