Cal-OSHA’s Response to the Northridge Earthquake

LOS ANGELES - Deputy Chief Mark Carleson was sent south soon after the Northridge earthquake disrupted lives, jobs and roads in the San Fernando Valley and environs. Recently, Carleson briefed the Cal-OSHA Advisory Committee on the agency's response."We called every employer with a tower crane and told them to reinspect before re-use. We understand one fell over in Sylmar." It was about 150 feet tall, Carleson said, but in all the havoc, nobody noticed that it was down for 24 hours. No one was hurt
