SACRAMENTO - The $1.3 billion settlement that would have resolved thousands of future personal injury claims against 20 former asbestos manufacturers was thrown out in May by the Third U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia.The court called the settlement "arguably a brilliant partial solution to the scourge of asbestos" and the mountains of litigation it has created.
