SAN FRANCISCO -- While cars whizzed overhead on San Francisco's Doyle Drive approach to the Golden Gate Bridge and a storm from the previous night cleared out, a group of Caltrans engineers hung on a truss underneath the road, practicing a technique that is becoming increasingly common on California's spans.
