Huge Prop. 65 Lawsuit Re Secondhand Smoke

The City of Los Angeles has hired a private law firm to file an unprecedented Prop. 65 lawsuit alleging that 16 tobacco companies are violating the law by not warning consumers of the risks of secondhand smoke (or ETS). The city attorney told the Los Angeles Times that civil penalties could exceed $2.5 billion. The lawsuit also seeks to compel makers of cigars and cigarettes to comply with the "clear warning" requirements of Prop. 65, possibly with TV commercials.Tobacco industry spoke
