BURBANK - Last year, Elizabeth Griffin, a 22-year-old technician at the Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center in Georgia, died of a fatal Herpes B virus infection carried by a monkey's body fluid. The fatal incident occurred October 29, 1997. Griffin had been transferring a monkey from a transfer box into a cage when liquids were splashed into her right eye. She was not wearing eye protection.
