Standards Board Gives Nod to Sweeping Escalator Regulation

SAN DIEGO -- The Cal/OSH Standards Board, deciding public safety was paramount to cost estimates, adopted revisions to the Elevator Safety Orders (ESO) Nov. 18 that it believes will eliminate virtually all incidents of accidental entrapment. Once effective, the revisions to ESO 3089(d) and 3091(k) will require that existing escalators be retrofitted with "skirt deflection devices" to protect against accidental entrapment of body parts
