Variance Article at Variance With the Facts

I am writing to in response to the May 5, 2000, article published in Cal-OSHA Reporter ("Report to Legislature Shows Variance Requests Have Plummeted Since 1997," p. 7377). The article contains errors and, as a result, creates a false impression of the work conducted by the board and the Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).The article's summary of variance statistics was printed without the explanatory footnotes included in the board's version of that document. The footno
