EXCAVATION PERMITS - NOTIFICATION TO DIVISION
CAL. CODE REGS, tit. 8, § 341.1(f)(3) (2002) - Employer did not originally know that its excavation to install new conduit into an existing manhole would require digging more than 5 feet deep. However, it learned in the morning that this would be necessary, and the digging was done to an 8-foot depth well before the Division was notified as required. Notification was not made until after 2 p.m. Keeping employees out of the excavation did not satisfy the requirement to notify the Division prior to beginning the work.
