Appeals Court: D.A.’s Can’t Use Competition Law in Safety Cases

The Orange County District Attorney filed criminal charges in a 2009 case in which two workers were killed by an improperly used water heater. But when the office went after the employer for civil damages under the Unfair Competition Law, the employer sought dismissal. An appellate court agreed. Here's what the ruling means.
