Former Division of Occupational Safety and Health Chief Robert Stranberg, who died earlier this month in Irvine, took over Cal/OSHA just in time to see it dismantled by then-Gov. George Deukmejian. He was criticized by some for staying at his post during disengagement, but when voters restored funding, Stranberg was able to get the program up and running again quickly. Cal-OSHA Reporter
