On Dec. 1, 1998, at a signing ceremony, Fed-OSHA released new safety training requirements for operators of forklifts and other powered industrial trucks. The rules will apply to operators in general industry, construction and maritime industries. Almost one million industrial trucks are in use in those industries.Powered industrial trucks are used to carry, push, pull, lift, stack or tier material. The standards do not cover vehicles used for earthmoving or over-the-road hauling.T
