Underground Economy Strike Force Gets Results

LOS ANGELES - In the first year of the Joint Enforcement Strike Force (JESF) targeting the underground economy, the Department of Industrial Relations found labor law violations at nearly half the businesses inspected, DIR Director Lloyd Aubry announced. Total penalties assessed for labor law violations were over $4.4 million in 1994, when 2,860 businesses were inspected.The lead agency for JSEF is the Labor Commissioner's Office in DIR.
