BERKELEY - On August 14, the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) filed suit against the employers of 70 Thai nationals found at a sweatshop in El Monte to force payment of nearly $5 million in unpaid wages, plus millions in damages and penalties. Labor Commissioner Victoria Bradshaw also announced that the court granted the state a temporary protective order to prevent depletion of any assets.
