Workers’ Memorial Day

BURBANK - April 28 was Workers' Memorial Day. It was honored in northern California with an observance in front of the K & L Plating plant in Oakland where, in 1993, Ramon Romero collapsed and died in the bottom of a large tank that contained deadly traces of cyanide fumes. The California Labor Federation noted that, although over the next five years K & L was fined over $700,000 for state and federal OSHA violations, it continued to stay in business until finally environmental violations shut it do
