Excavations, Compound Slope, Penalty Reduced. An alleged serious violation of 1540(d) was affirmed and the proposed civil penalty of $405 was reduced to $100.

Employer was engaged in the process of installing a sewer line at a housing tract when it was cited for exposing employees to the hazards of an excavation whose walls were sloped in a manner inconsistent with the required 3/4 horizontal to one vertical as mandated by 1540(d).
