Two-Year Bills Die After Deadline

Two legislative measures that were granted reconsideration after failing passage last year died in this year's session because the state Legislature didn't act on them before the statutory deadline.AB 796, which would have extended to police and fire departments the same Cal/OSHA penalty refund rights as public schools, died in the Assembly Appropriations committee. It had been approved in January by the Assembly Labor and Employment committee and was awaiting a hearing in Appropriation
