FALL PROTECTION - SAFETY ORDER APPLICABILITY
Cal. Code Regs, tit. 8, 1669(a) and 1670(a) (2000) - Employer's contention that 1669(a), applying in part to work from such elevated locations as beams, was more appropriate than 1670(a), applying in part to work at the perimeter of a structure, was rejected. Employer's foreman fell from a platform supported by I-beams, part of a mobile carrier used inside a water tunnel to move forms. The needle beam platform was not a beam in the true sense, but was an integral part of a structure, and the hazard faced by employees on the needle beam was a fall from the open side.
