Novice Crane Operator Killed on the Job

Both Cal-OSHA and USS-Posco Industries are investigating the fatal accident that occurred August 2 at the Posco steel plant in Pittsburg, California. Kim Lawson had only been on the job for two months. She was using an overhead crane to move a heavy cylinder (roll) onto a rack in order to remove the bearing blocks from the roll assembly. According to company officials, one roll became unbalanced and a 500-pound block that secures the bearings fell and struck her in the throat.Cal-OSHA
